The descendants of Leopold Oppenheimer of Dossenheim, Germany

We believe that the grandfather of Julius Oppenheimer I, son of Leopold Oppenheimer of Dossenheim, was Moses. We have not so far found a Leopold Oppenheimer whose father was Moses. However in the Loeb family tree (http://www.labri.u-bordeaux.fr/Equipe/CombAlgo/membre/loeb/tree/oppy.html) there is a Moses Oppenheimer of Heidelberg, whose son Salomon Oppenheimer of Heidelberg had three children including one Leopold Oppenheimer, b. 27 July 1834. It is possible that this may be Leopold Oppenheimer of Dossenheim.

It is understood that several of Julius Oppenheimer’s relatives emigrated to Australia.

Leopold Oppenheimer of Dossenheim; farmer and baker. 10 or 12 children, including:

• Sigmund Oppenheimer; watchmaker in Geneva
• Bertha Oppenheimer; lived in Mannheim. Victim of Nazi persecution
• Julius Oppenheimer I, b. 20 January 1875 Dossenheim, d. 16 December 1956 Sheffield, England. Jeweller. Educated at Englische Schule in Heidelberg; apprenticed to tobacco firm Gebrueder Maier of Mannheim (the Loeb genealogy says they were of Heidelberg). Emigrated to South Africa 1898, became naturalized citizen of Cape Colony 1902. Married ?, divorced during World War I.
